LaTeX is a powerful typesetting program that is particularly suited for typesetting mathematical symbols. All three of the textbooks for our course were written in LaTeX. You should use LaTeX to write your solutions to the assignments.

Bibtex is a tool for handling bibligraphies in LaTeX. The main idea is to create a formatted database with the information for your references, from which Bibtex generates the bibliography and citations in your article. It is quite easy to use and very convenient (if you have ever had to go through a document and renumber all your references because you've added a new source to your bibliography, you will appreciate Bibtex!).
