If you do not have an ISP, the University's UCIT group provides free but time restricted dial-in access for all members the University community. Use of these dial-in lines requires an UCIT account.  You can obtain such an account by going to: https://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/itutil?process=WebRegister.

SSH

Once connected to the internet (through UCIT or your own ISP) you can reach computer science servers via the* SSH *protocol. Various SSH clients are available.
