Samba allows us to make our unix file systems and printers available to all clients on the Department network.
When mapping a unix filesystem through server samba.cpsc.ucalgary.ca, the connection should be redirected via DFS to the fileserver on which the requested data resides. Ideally you would always use samba.cpsc.ucalgary.ca but some operating systems do not support DFS and the redirect fails. In these cases, please determine the actual fileserver name you need from the chart below and use that in place of samba.cpsc.ucalgary.ca.
| Directory |
Alternate Fileserver Name
(if samba.cpsc.ucalgary.ca fails) |
| /home/uga | nsb.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
| /home/ugb | nsf.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
| /home/ugc | nsg.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
| /home/staff | nsd.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
|
/home/profs /home/research |
nsi.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
| /home/grads | nsh.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
|
/home/jungle /home/projects |
nsj.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
| /home/archive | nse.cpsc.ucalgary.ca |
Mappings to unix home directories (U:) are created automatically at login for users on the PC Domain. Self-admin Windows users will have to create this mapping manually. In all cases, mappings will only succeed when your password is 8 characters or less.
