Conference Travel:
The Faculty of Graduate Studies Travel awards are funded by the Alberta Government. These awards are open to students registered full-time in a graduate program at the University of Calgary who are presenting their work or research at major national and/or international conferences. Applicants must live in Alberta and be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident. Applicants are also required to have confirmation of presentation at the time of application. Applications without a confirmation of presentation will not be considered.
An individual is eligible for one award at the Master's level and one award at the PhD level.
International students interested in applying for travel awards should contact:

Graduate students travelling to conferences may receive some funding from their supervisor for travel expenses. Contact Mary Lim in ICT 602 for information on how to claim these expenses.
Research Costs:
Thesis Research Grants assist graduate students with exceptional costs, essential to the conduct of their thesis project, which are beyond the ordinary means of the student, the laboratory or department. This may include special equipment, services or materials, or for field work essential to conducting their thesis project. Maximum awards are $1,000 for Masters and $1,500 for Doctoral students; only one grant per degree program is awarded. For guides and forms, visit Research Services.
The Graduate Student's Association offers bursaries and awards which students can apply for.
Student Loans:
Canadians may apply for student loans through the Student Awards and Financial Aid office on campus.
Other financial assistance may be available via industry employment opportunities or assisting faculty researchers as a Graduate Project Employee (depending on Canadian immigration status). Graduate Assistantship (non-teaching) support is sometimes available when the department needs service comparable to, but different from a teaching assistantship. This support is allocated on a case by case basis.
