Reference Request and Reference Form

Submitted by admin on Fri, 03/26/2010 - 14:12.

Each applicant is required to provide at least two references, completed on the Department of Computer Science reference forms.

The applicant must complete the first page of the Reference Package.
Referees retain the Reference Letter Consent Form (page 1 of the Reference Package) as evidence of the student's consent for the Referee to disclose personal information about the applicant.

Referees must complete the reference form provided. Letters accompanying the reference forms must bear the referee's signature on each page. The referee must forward the Reference according to the mailing instructions on the page 2 of the Reference Package. Letters of reference must be prepared on official letterhead from the referee's institution or professional business and sent in a sealed envelope or from an institutional email account along with completed University of Calgary Reference Forms.

An appropriate letter of recommendation is one written by an independent individual who can provide an assessment of the applicant's background and capabilities with respect to the prospective program. Letters from friends, family members, colleagues, people currently registered in a graduate degree program, or general reference letters that are not written in support of the person's application to the particular graduate program are not acceptable. A reference from a non-academic source should come from a person who has had direct supervisory experience of the applicant. An applicant currently registered in a graduate degree program at the University of Calgary, or who has recently completed a graduate degree program, must submit one letter of reference from his/her program supervisor.
